Jade A. Lawson is an award-winning multimedia journalist currently covering the D.C., Maryland and Virginia areas. Her work has taken her from the sidelines of Washington sports to the biggest stages in the country. In 2025, she traveled to San Jose to cover the NWSL Championship with the Washington Spirit and has covered Washington Mystics games, while conducting one-on-one interviews with some of the biggest names including A’ja Wilson, Naomi Osaka, Angel Reese and WNBA icon Sue Bird.

Her reporting career began at Good Morning America, and her work has since been featured across Good Morning America, ABC News, ESPN and Andscape. She has also interviewed some of the biggest names in entertainment, including Megan Thee Stallion, Eddie Murphy, Tracee Ellis Ross and Jennifer Lopez.

Whether she’s leading an in-depth conversation with the first openly gay HBCU football player, breaking news in the nation’s capital or sitting down with a global sports icon, Lawson brings curiosity, warmth and authenticity to every story. She was part of the team that broke the story of Howard University’s student unenrollment controversy in Washington, D.C., and has reported extensively on issues ranging from reproductive rights and HBCU health initiatives to the evolution of women in hip-hop.

Beyond daily reporting, Lawson has moderated panel discussions for entertainment companies including Hulu and its drama series Black Cake. Her work has earned recognition across the news and media industry, including an Emmy nomination, a Peabody Award nomination, two Webby honors, a Columbia duPont Award, an Edward R. Murrow Award, three NABJ Salute to Excellence Awards and recognition as an HBCU 30 Under 30 honoree. She is also a sought-after mentor for Black Girls in Media.

Lawson is a proud graduate of Hampton University and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

When she’s not reporting, Jade can usually be found spending time with family and friends, playing tennis, or recruiting a new fan to the WNBA.
